IFM Receives Accreditation with Commendation

For Immediate Release

Aug 1, 2016

Federal Way, WA—The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) is pleased to announce the decision by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to award IFM Accreditation with Commendation, which extends through July 31, 2022.

The ACCME’s decision was based on the review of IFM’s self-study report, evidence of performance-in-practice, and an accreditation interview. In order to achieve this level of accreditation, compliance must be demonstrated across 22 criteria covering our CME mission, educational planning, evaluation and improvement, and engagement with the environment. The ACCME commends IFM for being a change agent for the physicians and patients it serves.

“We are very pleased to announce that ACCME has just awarded IFM the distinction of Accreditation with Commendation. The Commendation decision reflects IFM’s dedication to standards of excellence in creating, delivering, and evaluating continuing medical education activities that positively affect physicians’ practice patterns and the patients they serve. We are gratified that our consistent, long-term efforts to demonstrate compliance across a wide set of criteria and accreditation policies have been positively evaluated and acknowledged. The fact that only about 1/3 of the nearly 2000 ACCME-accredited organizations receive Accreditation with Commendation makes us particularly proud of this achievement. The strategic priorities embodied in our 2016–2020 Strategic Plan will empower IFM to continue this commitment to excellence in the coming years,” says IFM Chief Executive Officer Laurie Hofmann, MPH.

IFM was first accredited by the ACCME in 2006. IFM educational programs are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). The goal of IFM’s continuing medical education program is to advance the state of care provided to patients with chronic diseases. IFM is committed to improving the competence and clinical skills of healthcare professionals by providing high quality, evidence-based educational activities focusing on advances in clinical medicine. The educational activities are designed to increase physician knowledge and change competence and/or performance in practice.
