Eligibility


IFM’s Certification Program (IFMCP) program is designed to help established clinicians develop advanced skills and competence in the treatment of patients with complex chronic disease. IFMCP does not grant any additional legal or specialty status. Clinicians can only apply their Functional Medicine education within the scope of their current healthcare licensure.

To be eligible for IFM's Certification Program one must:

A complete application must be submitted before IFM can provide feedback on an individual’s eligibility.

  1. Hold a healthcare degree from an accredited program

    AND

  2. Hold a current healthcare license to practice by the appropriate authority in the state, province or country of the applicant’s clinical practice


Please review the lists below for specific healthcare professions that are likely eligible or likely not eligible for IFMCP.

Likely Eligible*
Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Chiropractic, Naturopathic Doctor, Dentist, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, Registered Dietician, Acupuncturist, Pharmacist or equivalent degrees from countries outside of the USA.

+ Naturopathic Physicians and Nutritional Therapists from Great Britain

+ Naturopathic Physicians from the United States

+ Nutrition Professionals from the United States

Likely Not Eligible*
Doctor of Philosophy, Licensed Practical Nurse, Dental Hygienist, Massage Therapist, Mental Health Professional, Health/Wellness/Life Coach, nutritionists and dieticians from the USA other than Registered Dieticians (For Example: Certified Clinical Nutritionist, Holistic Nutritionist, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, etc.), Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or equivalent degrees from countries outside of the USA.

*Please note these lists are not all-inclusive. Each application is evaluated on program degree, educational background, regulatory status, and clinical experience. A complete application must be submitted before IFM can provide any feedback on the individual’s eligibility.
