The Institute for Functional Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The mission of the ACCME is the identification, development, and promotion of standards for quality continuing medical education (CME) utilized by physicians in their maintenance of competence and incorporation of new knowledge to improve quality medical care for patients and their communities."CME consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public."[ACCME]

. In 2016, The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) was awarded by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) the status of Accreditation with Commendation for six years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
The primary purpose of The Institute for Functional Medicine is to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals with educational interventions that enhance their clinical skills in the prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive management of complex chronic disease. The goal of IFM’s CME program is to advance the state of care provided to patients with chronic diseases. IFM is committed to improving the competence and clinical skills of healthcare professionals by providing high quality, evidence-based educational activities focusing on advances in clinical medicine. The educational activities are designed to increase physician knowledge and change competence and/or performance in practice.
