Tom Blue, Director of Strategic Development
Tom Blue leads strategic development for the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). In this capacity, he serves as the primary interface between IFM and its donors, business partners, entrepreneurs, and early-stage investors.
He is a veteran and pioneer in the field direct primary care (DPC) and concierge medicine. As a builder of retainer medical practices since 2002, he has a unique perspective on the potential for medical consumerism, innovative physician practice models, and Functional Medicine to accelerate the evolution of medicine in the United States.
In 2009, Tom accepted the role of Executive Director of the American Academy of Private Physicians (AAPP), the national professional association for DPC and concierge physicians. Under his direction, the Academy has re-branded itself, found its voice in the national media, and grew significantly. He now serves as its Chief Strategy Officer and its only non-physician board member.
Tom has served on the founding teams of two firms that have successfully developed networks of concierge physician practices: n1Health in 2011, and PartnerMD in 2002. n1Health, which today hasphysician partners in seven states,is the first enterprise of its kind to make active capital investments in partnerships with aspiring private physicians.
Tom currently serves as an active advisor to a number of firms focused on health care transformation through lifestyle medicine, employer sponsored clinics, digital health technologies, and advanced diagnostics. He also serves as the Director of Strategic Development for the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), the global leader in Functional Medicine.
He is a frequent speaker who in the last year, has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, CNN/Money, Business Week, and numerous other print, television, and radio media outlets in connection with his work.
