"When Should You Recommend an Elimination Diet?"

Diet is a foundational aspect of treatment in the functional medicine paradigm. But when should you suspect that food allergies or intolerances are a significant piece of the diagnostic puzzle? What are the most important clinical markers to look for? What foods are the mostly likely suspects? What is the best way to institute an elimination diet program? How do you monitor and support the process? What are some of the common pitfalls? This Webinar will add to your clinical toolbox by helping you determine when an elimination diet is indicated and how to utilize it most effectively to improve patient outcomes. Join us as Diana Noland, RD, MPH, CCN explores this topic.

"Triggers and Treatments in Inflammatory Bowel Disease"

There is a constant state of balanced chronic inflammation present in the gastrointestinal tract. This physiologic inflammation is essential for the maturing of the immune system and development of the normal morphology of the intestinal mucosa. However, this delicate balance can become upset. What causes the immune system to overreact in the gut? How does impaired mucosal defense and increased intestinal permeability lead to increased activation of NF-ęB, an overly aggressive cell-mediated immune response, increased inflammation, and loss of tolerance? What kinds of therapies are available to prevent or reverse these processes? Join us as Dr. Dan Lukaczer spotlights gut imbalance in the functional medicine paradigm.

"Viewing Complex Disease Through a New Prism"

The Institute for Functional Medicine has developed a conceptual framework which we call the functional medicine matrix. That framework organizes underlying clinical imbalances onto a platform that helps clinicians make connections between fundamental physiologic imbalances, dysfunction and disease. The matrix organizes the medical sciences so that the clinician can identify core clinical imbalances, and then apply a range of therapies in a thoughtful, consistent manner. Join us as Dr. Tom Sult uses this matrix to walk through a case. This illustration will clarify how such a program can help problem solving in complex chronic illness.
