The Institute for Functional Medicine has presented 14 International Symposia on Functional Medicine. Now in its second decade, this annual meeting is your best opportunity to hear about the latest research from respected researchers and experienced clinicians, participate in stimulating workshops, and network with knowledgeable colleagues. The annual Symposium is an opportunity for new and experienced functional medicine practitioners to learn about the latest research on an issue of great significance to their patients, then to select workshops where gifted clinicians help them understand how to incorporate these new perspectives into clinical care. Symposium topics are chosen by carefully examining the requests of prior Symposium attendees, reading widely in basic science, clinical medicine, and public health research to determine what issues are presenting significant challenges to the healthcare community, and then identifying the place where those indicators intersect with IFM’s own expertise in teaching about complex, chronic disease and functional medicine. The Symposium is a very highly rated event. Testimonials abound on attendee evaluation forms, bringing great satisfaction to IFM staff, who are totally committed to creating an outstanding experience for everyone. Usually held in a lovely resort atmosphere and often featuring some of the nation’s leading researchers and clinicians (including a Nobel Prize winner in years past), Symposium faculty often tell us they have never met a group like ours – so attentive, dedicated, and eager to learn. IFM President David Jones, MD, sums it up: "One of the Symposium’s most valuable experiences for me is meeting the attendees and sharing thoughts and experiences. A more passionate, knowledgeable group would be hard to find."
