CME Information
Accreditation Statement
The Institute for Functional Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit Designation
For MDs and DOs: The Institute for Functional Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 23.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits(TM). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. (IFM designates the Precourse for a maximum of 6.5 credits and the Plenary and Concurrent Sessions for a maximum of 17 credits.)

For DCs: The National University of Health Sciences provides continuing education credit for chiropractic physicians. Applications have been submitted to all states for a total of 23.5 credit hours. As of 4/22/08 the following states have approved 23.5 credit hours: AZ, AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, District of Columbia, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MS, MT, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, NC, ND, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WI, and WV.

For RDs and DTRs: The Commission on Dietetic Registration has approved this educational activity for 23.5 CPEUs.

For LAcs: The California Acupuncture Board did not approve the educational activity for CEUs.

For NDs: Oregon State Board of Naturopathic Examiners approved this for 23.5 CEs. Other states, contact your state licensing board for further information.

For Nurses: Contact your state licensing board for further information.

For PAs: AAPA accepts Category 1 credit for the PRA organizations accredited by ACCME. Contact your individual state licensing board for approved hours for your state.


The American Academy of Family Practice approved the Symposium for 23.0 Presecribed credits.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium, participants will be able to:
  • Evaluate and review various evidence-based approaches to the management of pain.
  • Apply scientific and pharmacological advances to the clinical management of pain.
  • Evaluate and, when appropriate, utilize comprehensive assessment procedures in the diagnosis of pain disorders.
  • Analyze and prioritize laboratory testing to acquire objective data regarding pain disorders in order to improve outcomes for patients.
  • Utilize electrostimulation, nutrients, phytonutrients, diet, stress reduction, and lifestyle interventions to enhance the management of pain.


Policy on Disclosure
In accordance with the Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) enforces the following policies:

1) All continuing medical education activities sponsored by IFM shall provide independent, balanced, objective, and scientifically rigorous presentations that are free of commercial bias.
2) In accordance with ACCME Essential Areas and policies, IFM is responsible for all decisions on key components of activity development, including the development of activity goals and objectives, promotional material, content, faculty selection and approval, activity evaluation, and maintenance of physicians’ credits.
3) All faculty participating in CME activities sponsored by IFM are required to disclose any real or apparent commercial financial affiliations with commercial supporters of this event and any such affiliations that are relevant to the content of their presentations/materials.
